January 2018Virginia Mason-Edmonds Family Medicine

Dear Edmonds Family Medicine Patient,

By now, you may have heard the exciting news that Edmonds Family Medicine plans to become part of Virginia Mason. Virginia Mason is a nonprofi t health care provider based in Seattle for the past 97 years. Like Edmonds Family Medicine, Virginia Mason is focused on high quality and appropriate care, and is committed to improving care delivery and enhancing the patient experience.

You may have questions about how this will affect patients, so I want to share a few points that can help answer those questions:

  • We have no plans to move and will remain at our current location that is both familiar and convenient for patients. There will be a name change in our future and, over the course of the year, we will begin using a new logo (right) on signage and correspondence.
  • Virginia Mason plans to support the Edmonds Family Medicine physicians and team so we can continue to provide the same high quality care to our patients.
  • Over time, Edmonds Family Medicine will transition from our current electronic medical record (EMR) to Cerner, Virginia Mason’s EMR. Cerner includes a patient portal called In the meantime, Edmonds Family Medicine patients will continue accessing their medical record through their current patient portal. Patients will be notified when it is time to transition to
  • If specialty care is needed, Edmonds Family Medicine doctors will continue to work with each patient to determine where he or she should be referred based on patient factors, insurance network, the type of specialty care needed and patient preferences. Many Virginia Mason specialists have offi ce hours at Virginia Mason Lynnwood Medical Center (near Alderwood Mall). Specialty care is also available at Virginia Mason’s main campus in downtown Seattle and Virginia Mason University Village Medical Center.
  • In emergency situations, getting care quickly is important. For your urgent medical needs, Edmonds Family Medicine will continue to provide Walk-In Clinic services Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Like Edmonds Family Medicine, Virginia Mason is included in most medical insurance plans in the Puget Sound area. To fi nd out about your plan, visit Please bring any insurance concerns to our attention.

Thank you for your trust in Edmonds Family Medicine. We look forward to continuing to provide you and your family with the same high quality health care you have come to expect. If you have questions, please contact us at 425-775-9474.

Edmonds Family Medicine Earns Esteemed 2015 Angie’s List Super Service Award

Award reflects company’s consistently high level of customer service

Edmonds Family Medicine has earned the service industry’s coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of service provided to members of the local services marketplace and consumer review site in 2015.

“At Edmonds Family Medicine we strive to empower people to lead healthier lives. Having terrific access to caring physicians is a big part of our service success as we meet one-on-one with patients to discuss how they can optimize their health.”

“Only about 5 percent of the healthcare companies in Edmonds/Snohomish have performed so consistently well enough to earn our Super Service Award,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “It’s a really high standard.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award 2015 winners have met strict eligibility requirements, which include an “A” rating in overall grade, recent grade, and review period grade; the company must be in good standing with Angie’s List, pass a background check and abide by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List. Companies are graded on an A through F scale in areas ranging from price to professionalism to punctuality.

Edmonds Family Medicine would like to share this presentation from the Washington Healthcare Forum which discusses Advance Care Planning and decisions regarding end-of-life healthcare.  It is important to determine who will speak for you if you are unable to speak for yourself regarding those decisions.  The presentation poses some questions and examples to help you think about how you would like your end-of-life care to proceed, and ways to structure conversations with your family so they understand your choices.  It will review how Americans say they want to be treated near the end of their lives versus what actually occurs.  The presentation also outlines life sustaining treatments and describes the pros and cons of each.  Finally, it shows you some of the tools that can help document your choices for end-of-life care.

We hope this presentation will help you have productive conversations with your loved ones and to establish an Advance Care Plan of your own.

Please contact us with any additional questions and we will be happy to help you.
